Virginia Traffic Laws Tickets Points DMV License Attorney Fairfax Richmond
Virginia Traffic Laws Tickets Points DMV License Attorney Lawyer
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) uses a point system to determine the quality of Virginia drivers. You can have up to 5 positive points (good points) on your Virginia driving record. Violation of certain Virginia traffic laws will result in you receiving demerit points on your Virginia driving record.
For every full calendar year that you have a Virginia driver’s license and you are not convicted of certain Virginia traffic violations or suspension, you accumulate one safe driving point on your Virginia driving record. If you complete a Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driver improvement clinic that is not court ordered, 5 positive points are added to your Virginia driving record.
If you accumulate too many demerit points on your Virginia driving record, you may lose your Virginia driving license.
How does the Virginia DMV know that I got a Virginia Traffic Ticket?
If you are given a Virginia traffic ticket by a police officer, you may have to go to traffic court in Virginia or you may be able to prepay the Virginia traffic ticket.
If you are convicted of the Virginia traffic ticket, the Virginia traffic court lets the Virginia DMV know. The Virginia DMV will then update your Virginia driving record with the new Virginia traffic ticket conviction and assign demerit points according to the Virginia traffic violation.
